A new rule released by the Trump administration this week blows a huge hole in what’s known as the “contraceptive mandate” – the policy established during the Obama years that requires employer health plans to provide birth control coverage with no co-pay. Specifically, the Trump rule would allow employers to request an exemption from the mandate for “religious or moral” reasons. Jamila Taylor, a senior fellow for women’s health at the Center for American Progress, joins to unpack what the rule change means.
